The local area
Southampton is a port city on England’s south coast, it’s home to the Sea City Museum, with an interactive model of the Titanic, which departed from Southampton in 1912.
Nearby, Southampton City Art Gallery specialises in modern British art whilst Solent Sky Museum features vintage aircraft like the iconic Spitfire. The Tudor House and Garden displays artefacts covering over 800 years of history.
Southampton is home to the famous West Quay with over 800,000 square feet of retail space and around 130 shops, major retailers and designers. The top floor serves as a food terrace with various restaurants and fast food complexes serving food all day, West quay is situated in the heart of the city centre close to the docks.
In December 2016 West Quay watermark opened its newest development sitting adjacent to the shopping centre with a range of 24 restaurants and cafes, a 10-screen multiplex cinema and bowling alley.
The Watermark centres around a new public plaza flanked by the old town walls with a set of tapering steps leading down to the natural auditorium which hosts a variety of events during both the summer and winter months. With the restaurants opening out onto the square, a water feature provides a focal point combining fountain jets and lighting also animates the space during the evenings, in the winter it also hosts the ice rink and Christmas markets.
Ocean Village Marina is situated in the shelter of Southampton water and right in the heart of the city itself, it is much more than just a marina surrounded by restaurants and bars but a hub of the community.
Oxford Street is the home of independent dining and lifestyle, located at the southern end of the city centre and also close to the docks. This historic street radiates a vibrant atmosphere with Al fresco dining, lively bars and plenty to offer day or night whether you are looking for breakfast, a light lunch, fine dining or a cocktail or two - Oxford street won't disappoint.
